The Fulford Sports and Active Recreation Consultation was carried out in 2025 to identify community priorities for improving Fulford Parish Field and the adjoining Persimmon field. The consultation was commissioned by City of York Council to guide the allocation of Section 106 (S106) funding from the Germany Beck development, which is dedicated to enhancing local sports and recreation provision in the area.
This consultation formed the second phase of engagement, building on an earlier consultation undertaken in 2022. The 2025 phase took a broader view of what sport and recreation means to the community, recognising that being active includes both formal, structured sport and informal activities that support active lifestyles. Recreation, accessibility, safety and inclusion were central themes throughout the process.
The consultation also sought to engage groups that were under-represented in the earlier phase. Engagement took place through a combination of online surveys, school-based engagement, community drop-in sessions, workshops and focus groups. In total, 833 people took part. This included 646 survey responses, made up of 394 Fulford Ward residents and 252 Fulford School students, alongside a further 187 people who contributed through in-person engagement activities. Views were received from across the community, including 486 participants from Fulford Ward.
This mix of quantitative and qualitative engagement provides a strong evidence base, capturing both broad trends and deeper insight into local needs and aspirations. The findings are presented in a full consultation report, alongside an executive summary highlighting the key themes, priorities and recommendations.
The consultation closed on Saturday 25 October 2025. The outcomes will inform the development of a design brief and proposals for consideration by the Council’s Executive Committee. Updates on decisions and next steps will be shared later in 2026.
